My first apartment in New York was recessed in the back of a large apartment building. I faced two walls and had one hour of actual sunlight a day. I decided that painting the whole apartment a pure white would help brighten it up and lighten my mood. I stuck to all white accessories like mirrors, picture frames and magazines. I accented with some greenery and dark wood furniture keeping the flow of my mid-century modern aesthetic.

I kept my first room as fresh as possible. Everything was clean, white and minimal. Since I was rarely home I needed to live in a room that was functional and easy to keep clean. I avoided knickknacks and kept the top of each surface clean and clear as Hayden Panettiere's Neutrogena commercial.

My second New York apartment had prewar molding which basically did half of the decorating for me. I was on a budget so I decided to keep it minimal and use a couple pieces of black and white with bold prints to give some life to the room. The baby grand piano also helped. The crazy looking print you see on the right is actually a hand drawn design from my good friend Blaze Brooks. You can look him up HERE

LAS VEGAS SPACES

My decision to move back to the west coast came recently. I had had enough of New York for the time being and needed a change of lifestyle. I had been writing music and found myself stuck in a weird spot that I couldn't seem to get out of. I packed my things and sent it over to the desert where I currently reside. Las Vegas is where I was born and I will forever have ties to this faux oasis. Now more than ever I appreciate the rigid lines of the surrounding canyons and the painted desert that looks like a scene out of an old western film.

My new studio is going to be similar to my previous spaces in New York however it will have much more desert influence. I have two prints from SLY AUSTRALIA, Chair from MoMA, Desk from IKEA and various other music equipment. I found that If I keep everything white and add a few desert shrubs, I can get away with the bare minimum and still have a chic work space. All of this is meant to keep my head clear and free of distraction so I can write freely.
